The Trotting Dead by BlueWolf-2020 The Trotting Dead by BlueWolf-2020
Now that the daily NATG is over, I can focus on doing the weekly themes for :iconmlp-atg-alumni:: This week was The Trotting Dead.

I didn't want to do anything bloody or gory, so I went with creepy shadowy zombies with glowing eyes! :D:

The one thing I want to do different in the next weeks is getting away from my "safe" pose. I noticed that I always draw 3/4s view facing right with one hoof up. At least this time I changed what hoof was up. I need to start trying side views or front views or different angle or something to mix it up a little.

I bought some new Lyra colored copic markers last week so of course I used Lyra to test them out. I got some Luna colored copic markers too, but there was no Luna in this picture so I used both those blues on the logo. The logo didn't scan to great though. All the color on this is copic except for the DARK yellow, that was a sharpie.

The dark shadowy zombies on the side, I outlines with a brush pen and then colored in about half and inch on the edges with a brush pen before filling in the rest with a black sharpie to save ink on my brush pen.

Looks pretty good.

Have to draw up a Lyra vs Zombies picture later on.

Did one when she was working at an asylum.

Nice job on this one!
I was about to ask the markers you used for Lyra but looks like you already covered it. I ought to get me that one for when i work on another Lyra piece. ^^

I find I tend to like using lighter copic colors, but they also seem to run dry WAY faster.. probably because it takes more ink on the paper to get the look I'm going for.

I use that same trick with black fills to conserve the much pricier brush pens. I'm sure there's a way to adjust the levels when scanning or tweaking the pic to make them smooth out into a solid black, too, but I haven't fooled around enough with that yet.

Those Lyra colors are almost spot on!

I'm really happy with the Lyra colors.  Bought them last week, I got "G00 Jade Green" for the body.  Was worried it was going to be too light, but I laid it on a little thick and it looks great.  I'll probably have to invest in refills of that ink though.. I got "BG10 Cool Shadow" for the hair and it look good too, but I may try and play around with a different grey or BG color to see if there is another color I like better, but if not the color I got now looks good as it is.

Nice work-around to not draw gory stuff!
I suggest you to try and draw a pony facing straight ahead. It's a very nice way to have them do the best expressions!
